Knivesplus Modified Delica/Endura

Fellas,

I'm wondering if anyone has tried out any of the reground Delica and Endura knives that Knivesplus is selling. Just the reground ones with the modified tip profile, not the acid washed ones. This type specifically:

What I'm looking for answers on is mainly if anyone has seen evidence of burnt steel near the tip where the regrind is done. I'm not sure what tools and methods they use to do it, so I'm somewhat concerned that they might be damaging the heat treatment and microstructure of the steel during the process.

I quite like the simple regrind and they only go for about $5 more than the standard ones. The added width in the tip and lowering of the point should increase the durability a little bit and also gives the blade a sort of modified sheepsfoot profile, which I like.

Anyone have one?

I don't have one, but that is a great price for a regrind.

I have a theory on regrinds with that lowered point (ie. the modified sheepsfoot). I think it is from screwing up the regrinds. When I was regrinding knives and I burnt the tips (easy to do) I would lower the tip, since it seemed like the easiest fix.

Neat mod and regrind.

You could be right, Chum. I was under the impression that the only thing done during the regrind in this case is the modified tip design though.

That was my impression too. In which case it would probably be fine, since they're only touching the very tip of the apex with the regrind, but gauging how far heat damage goes without visible discoloration is always a crapshoot.
