TRC Apoclypse Knife

This looks like a good knife. Review by Edge Observer:

Has anyone had a chance to use or even handle this knife? I don't know why, but it caught my eye, these days knives rarely do that anymore.

It has nice lines but poor leverage (edge starts far away from the handle)

Kinda ridiculous thick (lol look who's talking) with not high grind (though the narrator claims it is impressively high) but looks like maybe an acceptably thin edge

Looks like decent workmanship.

Tricky sharpening without scratching the primary (again look who's talking)

I think it is a zero grind. You noticed way more stuff about it than I did! All I remeber is that it had a zero grind (I think) and came with a ferro rod. I need to watch it again, I guess!

I almost bought one of these a while ago, I just had a problem so I delayed the payment a few days so Andrius sold it to someone else. Note at that time I didn't know much and I believed the hype saying that RWL 34 is a very tough steel.

Now I wouldn't buy this anymore. First off , the choice of steel is weird for a survival knife, now I know that there are many other steels who offer better toughness, edge stability and ease of sharpening with similar stain resistance. Note, Andrius used to use Sandvik steels (mainly 12c27) in the past, now he has completely switched to Elmax and RWL34. Of course, he has to adapt to the market demand, but for people who know a bit about knives it's more sensible to talk about a full custom knife with one of the very talented knifemakers we have for instance on this forum. Imagine what a job is to sharpen a full convex blade in a high carbide steel at 61HRC... I imagine that most people that buy this knife don't use it, and I also imagine it's a decent chopper (bar the sharpening issues and the relatively low toughness) but the cutting performance can't be that great.

Other than that, it's a nice looking knife, difficult to come by, without luck you have to wait months for it to become available at one of the few resellers in Europe.
