For whatever reason, I am kind of interested in this beast of a knife.

Big old ti-framelock with a 4.5 inch, 3.5mm thick 10V blade.

Some commentary from the maker on what the knife is designed to do:

I designed the K2 to be a very high performance tool for all applications, but it is 63RC and needs to be respected, as CPM-10v is not stainless there are applications like cutting certain fruits which one would choose a stainless blade for, other than that this tool is pure high performance.
Thanks

Interesting response. Considering the blade shape, it might make a decent hunting knife if it is sanely ground.

Not yet. It is probably gonna be pretty pricey compared to the other all ti folders in the 2014 line up.

Yeah true. And it is actually pretty stupid as a knife steel. I just like the shape.

Why is it stupid?

It lacks intelligence in design.

--

What is the reason for combining that steel, thickness, lock and handle shape? The things that require part of the design (very hard work) are in direct opposition to other parts of the design (high carbide, brittle steel).

Cliff: I was under the impression that Mark was referring to properties of 10V in general, but the observations you made are all quite valid.

I will concede that it is representative of a lot of Mehr's work, which is big, thick knives in extreme steels that aren't actually intended to do any work; something that I really doubt that any of the Spyderco K2s will do, despite all the declarations of how "tough" the steel is.

Still, it will at least be functional out of the box, unlike the mule you had.

To get a bit off topic, props to Bruce in his last video for correcting himself when he referred to Maxamet as "tough"

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I find this one very appealing as well. I can't really explain why, as I generally don't use folders over 3.5", don't prefer metal handles, and as a lefty I also don't prefer frame/liner locks. Just looks/fantasy I guess.

I expect the street price will exceed my willingness to pay anyway. I think someone in the thread was trying to ask about the thickness behind the edge, but Farid just replied with the stock thickness. I would expect it to be in the standard .02"+ area...
Re: Spyderco K2 Farid

I do like higher carbide steels in situations where I can't sharpen for extended periods of time. And I don't mind frame-locks just because they're easier to take apart and clean.

Chumwear would be ideal.

I like the look of this knife also. Nice blade shape, ffg, and not too much space between the guard and the edge.

There is a 15V, I even have a blade in it. It never caught on even though it has 50% more of the thing that makes 10V so much V. A lot of what makes the rounds as blade steels I am fairly convinced is nothing more than what steel manufactures decide to really push. There is simply no logic at all to the steels, the progression is just random. Look at this :

ATS-34 -> BG-42 -> S60V -> 154CM -> S90V -> S30V -> PM 154CM-> S125V -> S110V -> 154CM

This chain of steels is a rough timeline of the kind of popularity of stainless steels and under all the switches is ATS-34/154CM which itself is a pretty silly stainless steel for knives given its properties and especially how it is hardened. But yet it is used - why, ask a knife maker when no one is listening and you hear things like - easy to grind, takes a very nice finish, very easy to harden, etc. .

Chum: I would prefer that Spyderco would have made the Slysz Bowie this size and made the K2 smaller.

There is something to be said for the clean simplicity of a ffg blade, two slabs of ti, and two screws. Not sure about that clip.

Chum: Yup, the bowie has a 3.2-35 inch blade. A 4 inch blade would have been nice.

The Bowie sort of reminds me of the now discontinued Spyderco Perrin folder.

Pity about the price, though. $300.

I don't really like the design myself. It doesn't have good indexing attributes. The ergos aren't looking great, and it will more the likely be ground way to thick for me. And as Cliff pointed out the stock thickness given the steel and it is a ti framelock.

What do you think of the Slycz bowie? I thought my techno would be awful but it ended up being very comfortable to us

It started that I wasn't a real person but a sock account for Busse. This was the first public claim. Busse disputed it and a number of people actually tried to (and did) verify I was a real person by contacting the university to verify I existed. The fact that people believe this enough to do that says a lot about the kind of delusion that exists as they would rather believe that than give up some fantasy about knives/steels.

Later the idea started to form that many of the things I talked about were part of some conspiracy to promote these ideas which has includes such claims as the false publication of research papers, that other people are either just being controlled by me or in fact are me and are just sock accounts. This all sounds pretty absurd, but remember there are people who really believe the earth is hollow and dinosaurs live there.

--

I just asked about the design of this folder, I would be curious as to Farid's response. The last time someone asked him a similar question it didn't go over too well when a number of members noted that they could do what he was doing/claiming with much simpler steels (BritishBlades - "Farid competition cpm-10v knife").

Lol I was talking to my friend today (who is a resonable and nice guy) and he went off about 9/11 conspiracy theories. This is someone who got a full ride to college based on his grades and he honestly believes that the CIA caused 9/11 to make money off the resulting war. As usual when confronted with evidence, he claimed the evidence was part of the conspiracy.

Maybe people just don't like to hear the truth?

I might actually buy this if the price is right. I know the steel is delicate, but I would argue that titanium framelocks aren't made for rough use, just promoted for it.
