better ruin it for us. just watched and any comments about price are gone. my guess would be about $2500.
sander being used looks like your basic 6x48 belt sander. would be lovely to own if you could make it variable speed. most knifee's would not want it because it is not 2x72, which we all know is the only sander you can use to make a real knife. LOL, just feeling snarky today.

Randomly stumbled upon this. Not much in the video, but I thought it was interesting someone actually decided to make a 3V axe head, let alone a competition sized one.

The truly interesting part is if you click on the Hudson Steel Supply link in the comments and price the piece of steel he started with...I won't ruin it for you.

Brand new combat/tactical offering from Buck.

Specs:

Blade Length: 5.50" (14.0 cm)
Handle Length: 5.25" (15.2 cm)
Overall Length: 10.75" (27.3 cm)
Blade Material: 5160 Carbon Steel
Blade Thickness: 0.200"

The product description is the usual mumbo jumbo, but this looks a lot more sensible than a lot of other tactical fixed blades. Knife design is very similar to the Camilius CUDA/Terzuola knife. Provided they aren't using that horrible GRN stuff for the sheath, that even looks ok.

It will be interesting to see if any of these explode like the Hoodlums did.

I've always felt that an overbuilt paring knife would be a good choice for edc... or just a regular paring knife, and if you know you'll need something more pryish a multitool plus a paring knife... or multiple paring knives, since they are so slim and lightweight.

Absolutely! They can both be super practical knives, the khukuris have a bit more power per inch while bowies have a more functional point. I think it also comes down to the personality of the person. You want a big neat knife that everyone will think is cool? You get a bowie. You want a big weird knife that people will be slightly confused by and ask you questions about? You get a khukuri haha

Hi CKC , man. the recent version is made of 15N20 and older ones are made of L6
when talk about big chopper , which steel is better ?

as i what i know , the 15N20 is for band saw making and much expensive than L6,
have you use those steels for making your own knives?

a lot of the steel svord uses comes from bandsaw blades. its a very good way to get the steel at a good price.. i've used svord knives for a long time and its always been good.

15n20 is an L6 grade steel, to say one is more or less expensive is inaccurate. you have to look at the company selling it. Udderholm, Latrobe, etc etc. not all companies make the same quality steel, even if the grade is the same.

AISI L6 is a tool steel standard, and the standards allow for variation.

15n20 is designed for Bandsaw blades etc. when svord says L6 or 15n20 over the years, there is a good chance that they are just being used in an intermingled way.

Quote

In ASTM A681 standard, L6 steel grade is in L-type for special purpose tool steels. AISI L6 tool steel is in the general class of alloy, oil-hardening tool steel that is characterized by good toughness. ASTM L6 tool steel is suitable for use as tools, dies, and machine parts, which require a good combination of hardness and toughness.

Due to its lower carbon content and relatively high nickel content, L6 tool steel has slightly better shock-resistance than more highly alloyed types and should be used where some wear-resistance can be sacrificed for increased toughness.

may get one in future.
as i remember CKC , man , you are in Australia, Svord should be a famous brand in your state .
do you have exprienced those knives ?

Actually, no, im a New Zealander, and Bryan Baker is a friend of mine. if you recall, my first 2 knife designs the ckc hiker, and ckc belt knife are actually knives that Bryan heat treated and machine pre-ground for me down to 1mm thick with his logo on, and then i made and sold the knives ful grinding, handling sheathing etc..

these are my ckc knives. I did nearly 300 of the small hiker and about 200 of the edc belt knife before i moved on and did all the heat-treats etc on my own and explored many different designs.

I can tell you honestly, that Bryans knives are the first real quality knives i owned when i was first getting into buying stuff with my own money back in the late 1990's and they are not the best finish knife and can be a little rough around the edges which i like myself.
they were the first knives i owned, and TBH, they are the types of outdoor knives i would go and buy now that im no longer making my own knives.

the Kiwi line of knives are the most budget. the grinds and finishes may be a little thicker, less refined, and the are injection modled, or molded plastic. with basic sheaths of vinyl.. these ones might need some work out of the box.

the Economy line are partial tang, like old hickory, and very rough around the edges.. but ready to work. might be a little thicker than i like.
if you spend some time sanding and shaping economy handles and reprofile a little. you got a good knife.

the deluxe are far and wide the best value for money in that you get a good leather sheath, and a finished knife with brass fittings and a polished blade ready to go, sharp and with a good convex, and for around $100usd on amazon on avg for these. they are knives to last a lifetime.

what i like about svord over most american knives is that they are knives that fit my design belief on what provides the best knife for longevity for the end user without requireing a lot of work.

the blades are on avg 2mm stock.. the grinds are robust but lean convex that are 1/2 height.. a traditional authentic scandi style grind, not the way the modern fixed 12dps blades are done. these knives cut like kitchen knives.
the steel is tough, and easy to sharpen, and not too hard.. a butcher steel or basic stone will make it razor sharp with ease.. these are qualities i admire far more than overly hard, or longer edge retention. it works better in tough hard materials as it doesn't chip
the flat stock of thin nature as its resharpened over time is never going to thicken up if you follow the carter model of sharpening. it will maintain identical performance until there is no steel left on the blade. you never need to thin the spine to restore performance.

i started another thread that talks about svord and others here for this reason

I used to own one about 16 years ago. so im not sure how the current model quality stands up to it, but i can say a few things..

from what i have seen, its been sold in many different thicknesses depending on the steel availability, anywhere from 5mm - 7mm in thickness. so this is going to play a large part in how the knife handles and performs.

mine was about a 6mm version if i recall.

its definatly a monster of a knife with a lot of mass behind it.

The grind is/was a fairly durable convex grind but still fine enough to perform cutting of tomatoes and meats and soft stuff easily. cutting of soft woods was good. hardwoods its nice performance but not the best.

the handle is interesting in that it looks like it has not tapers or security, but i never felt like it would slide from my hand. depends on type of grip and cut technique.

i think you will enjoy it.

and its a tough knife

I'm sure it is a nice item. However, like most things Gransfors Bruks, it is priced way out of line. I have 4 of their axes. They are surely nice and work well, but you can get the same capability for much less. Here is a link to a similar puck for $17.50. (It looks suspiciously the same.) You can get it and several others at Baryonyx Knives. I think the owner is a member of this forum.
That is what I was going to say, it does seem a little pricey.
Not sure if it is a sintered ceramic. I am not sure how to find out what type of abrasive it is. Are there and reviews on that describe the abrasive and binder?
