Chum, that is exactly one of the things I am looking at, where is wider better or thinner preferable.

The Traveler was used to make a quick dinner tonight, bacon and sirracha fried rice:



For those that have not used one, the Kelly Kettle is a pretty remarkable way to heat water quickly in the field. (even if the field is just the backyard :) )

I'm really interested in this, especially since there is such a large difference in blade width but not a great deal of difference in blade length. I used its sister today, the Traveler drop point. It is an expeditition quality knife, easily portable yet stout enough for the most serious work. My adventure today was brewing up a cup of tea in the Kelly Kettle, taking a break from raking leaves. The McCullen Traveler made it quite fun.

Given the stock thickness and the hard use I have see Jeremy's Brightleaf in the same steel handle, I have no doubt about its durability in proceesing wood via baton, then shaving down dry shavings for a quick litle fire. The 4" lenght that makes it so useful and portable does limit the wood size, but you either split the wood in corner sections or simply switch to smaller diameter wood.
